5 Photographers Making Big Money From NFTs

Nowadays, the ever-expanding market of NFTs has gained lots of attention. Non-fungible tokens, NFTs, are defined as any form of digital assets on blockchains that have only one owner. All transactions related to an NFT are recorded and traceable, which makes it unique. In the world of art, NFTs are any piece of art that can be purchased and owned digitally.

NFTs are interesting and somewhat controversial technological and artistic assets including photography, music, game, etc. Some people believe that NFTs are the art of the future. However, some others hesitate at the idea of owning something that is “not real.” Since society continues becoming more reliant on technology, the existence of NFTs and NFT artists has slowly become more legitimized due to people’s interest in the market, so people are investing more and more money into digital artwork.

Meanwhile, more amounts of money are spent on photographs. Photographs that are deemed iconic are particularly popular in the NFT market. Here, we aim to take a look at 5 NFT photographs that made big ETH as NFTs.

1. “Love Is War” by Aimos Vasquez

NFT sale price 40 ETH

Amos Vasquez is well-known for the extremely iconic black and white photos he took of many celebrities. This photographer dropped the iconic portrait of XXXTentacion, a famous rapper, on the Blockparty marketplace. The photo was titled “Now Crediting: Amos”, which features the last photo of the rapper that was posted to Instagram before he died.

This photo is the most-liked post of a person in Instagram history and, also, the most commented-on photo of all time. Incredibly, this pic is still getting comments and likes.

The photo was placed in a collection of his concert photos entitled: “Now Crediting: Aimos”, and was auctioned as an NFT. It was put to auction on the online asset marketplace Blockparty and the collection sold for an undisclosed amount of money. It sold for 40 ETH.

2. “Until We Disappear” x “White Roses for My Soul to Keep” by Randall Slavin

Combined sale price of 6.8 ETH

In 2017, rock legend Chris Cornell tragically made suicide at the age of 53. A few months before his death, he had done a photoshoot with photographer Randall Slavin. With the approval of Cornell’s widow, Slavin decided to mint and sell the unreleased photoshoot as NFTs.

Two NFTs were chosen for auction, one entitled “White Roses for My Soul to Keep”, and the other “Until We Disappear.” Each of these photographs is essentially slideshows of the different portraits that Slavin captured of Cornell in his final photo shoot. They were purchased using Cryptograph.

A percentage of the sales income went to Phoenix House California, a non-profit drug and alcohol rehab center. Cornell was on drugs at the time of his death and struggled with addiction throughout much of his life, therefore it seemed that they found the most fitting place to allocate money.

3. NFT artworks by Matty Furious

sold for 19.217 ETH (last price 188.49 ETH)

The photographer Matty Furious is known to create insanely difficult-to-describe NFTs such as absurd cityscapes, vintage video games, and weirdly familiar early 2000s computer aesthetics.

While NFTs tend to be sort of interesting and atypical, Matty furious did an amazing job with his NFTs minting different assets from photographs. His work is so interesting because it is typically composed of things that seem so familiar, however, you might have never seen it before. These familiar elements come together to create new ideas and fantastically chaotic worlds.

4. NFT artworks by photographer Elise Swopes

Total estimated value of 107.027 ETH

The brilliant Elise Swopes is an artist, a name-brand collaborator, an NFT creator, and a pretty remarkable human.
